How to get more Google reviews for your business

The tactics that actually work for local businesses: make reviewing effortless, ask at the right moment, and stay inside Google's rules — no gimmicks.

More Google reviews mean more trust and better visibility in local search. Yet most happy customers simply never get around to leaving one — not because they didn't enjoy it, but because it's a small hassle. Getting more reviews is mostly about removing that hassle. Here's what actually works.

1. Make leaving a review effortless

This is the single biggest lever. Every extra step — searching for you, finding the reviews tab, working out where to tap — loses people. Give customers a direct review link that opens the review box in one action. A QR card or NFC tag on the counter turns that into a single tap or scan.

2. Ask at the right moment — without pressure

The best time is right after a good experience, while the customer is still feeling positive. Ask too early and there's nothing to review yet; ask days later and the moment has passed. Just keep it a genuine offer, never pressure: Google's 2026 rules prohibit pressuring customers to leave a review while they're still on your premises, so make the link easy to reach (a tap, a scan, a follow-up message) and let them choose.

  • At checkout or when you hand over the bill.
  • Right after you've solved a problem or delivered something they're happy with.
  • In a thank-you message after the visit.
  • On packaging, receipts or a table stand they see while they wait.

3. Ask everyone the same way

Don't gate your reviews

It's against Google's policies to only ask happy customers, or to screen people so unhappy ones are steered away from Google. Ask every customer the same way — it's the rule, and an honest rating profile builds more trust than a suspiciously perfect one.

4. Reply to the reviews you get

Responding — especially to criticism, calmly and helpfully — shows there's a real, attentive business behind the listing. It encourages more people to leave reviews and reassures anyone reading them later.

5. Never buy or incentivise reviews

Paid, fake or incentivised reviews break Google's policies and put your whole listing at risk — reviews can be removed and the profile penalised. Offering a discount or gift 'for a review' counts. Keep it to genuine reviews from real customers; it's safer and it lasts.

Do it the easy way

uTapiT is built around exactly this: a permanent review link on a QR or NFC product, an honest one-tap customer flow, and analytics so you can see how many scans turn into reviews — without ever gating or faking anything.
