How to get more Google reviews for your hotel or guest house

Where and when to ask guests for a Google review across a stay, where to place your review link, and how to do it without breaking Google's rules.

Travellers pick where to stay by rating and reviews, and a hotel or guest house has more touchpoints with a guest than almost any other local business — a whole stay to leave a great impression and, at the end of it, to ask.

The best moment: at check-out

A guest leaving a good stay is relaxed and happy — the perfect time. Ask at the front desk during check-out, with the review link right there, and follow up with a short thank-you message after they've travelled home.

  • At the reception desk, for check-in and check-out.
  • A tent card in each room — on the desk or nightstand.
  • On the key-card holder or the welcome sheet.
  • In your post-stay thank-you message or email.

Google reviews, not just booking-site reviews

Ratings on booking platforms matter, but your Google rating is what shows up in Maps and Search when someone looks you up directly. A review link that points to Google helps you build that profile alongside the OTA ones.

Keep suggestions honest

Don't invent the details

uTapiT's wording suggestions stay general — the room, the staff, the location, cleanliness — and never make up amenities, prices or claims.

Stay within the rules

No free night for a review

Offering a discount, an upgrade or a free night in exchange for a review breaks Google's rules, and asking only the guests who seemed pleased is review gating. Don't pressure guests to review on the spot — offer the link and let them do it in their own time. Ask every guest the same way.

Set it up

Put your review link on a reception plate and in-room cards, and add it to your post-stay message. uTapiT gives you the products and the one-tap flow.
