How to get more Google reviews for your retail store or shop

How retail shops can turn fast-moving footfall into Google reviews: ask at the counter, where to place your review link, and how to stay inside Google's rules.

Shoppers check a store's Google rating before deciding where to go, and a busy shop has plenty of happy customers to draw from. The challenge is speed: retail customers pay and leave in seconds, so the ask has to happen right at the counter, in one tap.

The best moment: at the billing counter

Ask while you're bagging the purchase or handing over the receipt, when the customer is standing right in front of you and pleased with what they bought. A quick, friendly line plus a tap-or-scan link on the counter is all it takes.

  • An NFC plate or card at the billing counter, right where customers pay.
  • Printed on the receipt.
  • Near the exit, where people pause before leaving.
  • On the bag, or a small insert dropped in with the purchase.

Make offering it a habit

Because the window is so short in retail, offering the link at the counter beats a message sent later — most people won't come back to it. Have the team mention it while bagging: 'if you're happy with everything, our Google review link is right here.' Keep it a no-pressure offer, and don't set review targets for staff.

Keep suggestions honest

Don't invent the details

uTapiT's wording suggestions stay general — the range, the service, how helpful the staff were — and never make up product names, prices or claims.

Stay on the right side of Google

No discount for a review

Offering money off or a freebie in exchange for a review breaks Google's rules, and asking only the customers who seemed happy is review gating. Don't pressure anyone to review on the spot — offer the link and let them choose. Ask everyone the same way.

Set it up

Put your review link on a counter plate or card and let every customer tap or scan as they pay. That's exactly what uTapiT is built for.
